The long-awaited glycol-based brake fluid. 

Seiken genuine brake fluid is a high-quality, high-performance non-mineral oil brake fluid that complies with the JIS standard (except BFR), as well as meeting standards such as FMVSS and ISO. With boiling point performance exceeding JIS standard values, we prevent the phenomenon of vapor lock and protect car safety.

Two major differences between glycol-based and silicone-based

● Glycol dissolves water. Silicone does not dissolve water.
Brake fluid should not dissolve water, but this is the first fatal drawback. Water droplets are generated in the air chamber of the reservoir tank of the master cylinder due to the temperature difference. Water droplets get mixed in the brake fluid. In the case of silicone-based brake fluid, water (specific density 1) has higher specific gravity than silicone (specific density 0.958), does not dissolve, and sinks to the lower part as water. Water infiltrates into the brake pipe, brake hose, caliper, and wheel cylinder, and the water reaches the high heat generation part. In other words, even silicon-based brake fluid, which has a high boiling point, causes vapor lock at a temperature of only 100 ° C (boiling point of water). Glycol brake fluid is hygroscopic. Since water dissolves in brake fluid, it retains a high boiling point compared to silicone-based products, and the rusting rate is incomparably lower than that of silicone-based products even in the presence of water.

● Matching with rubber (compatibility)
The rubber material for brake parts is SBR (styrene-butadiene-based rubber). Silicone-based brake fluid has very poor compatibility with rubber and has the property of hardening and shrinking rubber, and this phenomenon progresses remarkably at higher temperatures, and finally, a cracking phenomenon (cracking) occurs. However, it leads to the destruction of rubber parts. In other words, as soon as the curing phenomenon begins, liquid leaks and immediately becomes a no-brake phenomenon. This is another fatal drawback. Glycol-based brake fluid is extremely compatible with SBR and has excellent properties that give proper swelling to the rubber cup and maintain good compatibility with the cylinder. Piston seals and rubber cups are very delicate "creatures". In order to obtain the ideal matching degree and achieve perfect sealing performance in a better environment, it is best to use SEIKEN brake fluid and SEIKEN brake parts that know the brakes together. More than half of all vehicles running in Japan are equipped with SEIKEN brake parts.

The Girodisc solution to help prevent fluid boiling is to use a thin titanium shim placed between the pad back and the pistons, to keep the braking heat from transferring into the pistons and fluid. Here is a comparison of materials and their relative thermal conductivity ratings:

Titanium 6AL-4V 6.7 W/mk Steel 52 W/mk Aluminum 130 W/mk

You can see that Titanium will transfer far less heat than steel and especially aluminum. For cars that are going to see hard or multiple track days, these shims are cheap protection from losing the pedal due to boiling at the wrong time and making the day very expensive.

HEL Performance have pulled out all the stops when developing their carbon fibre brake pad shims. They've used the finest carbon fibre, combined with an exclusive resin which is non-combustible and thermally resistant to temperatures over 400°C (752°F). This special resin cures an attractive yellow or orange depending on the batch.

These don't just look the part though: initial testing carried out by a professional racing driver in various road and track conditions showed a huge average temperature drop of 49°C (120.2°F) on the front calipers.

HEL carbon fibre shims come in at a super-lightweight 3.5 grams per shim, compared to weighty titanium which are a typical 17 grams per shim. That's a dramatic 79% weight saving.

That's not the only comparison which makes titanium inferior though: carbon fibre also has a much lower heat conduction compared to titanium (1W/mK compared to 22W/mK for titanium and 65W/mK for steel). Anything that helps reduce the temperature and increase efficiency of brake components is a good thing, especially as caliper seals are at risk of being damaged when they get too hot.

Installing these carbon fibre brake pad shims will certainly inspire confidence that when you brake aggressively, all the components are being kept cool and working at their best.

You can also re-use the shims when changing pads, as long as they're in a good condition.

Curved Directional Ventilation Vanes

Brembo's GT systems are designed and tested specifically for track day enthusiasts and for drivers who demand the utmost performance from their cars. These kits offer superlative performance for both normal driving and demanding track day sessions. 

The heart of the kit consists of monoblock calipers machined from a single billet of cast aluminium, which ensure outstanding rigidity and minimised deformation. The discs supplied in the kit feature an exclusive venting system that improves cooling capacity and increases resistance to cracking caused by thermal shock by over 40%. Cross-drilled and slotted finishes are designed and executed with meticulous precision. These holes or slots in the braking surface help dissipate heat and eliminate brake dust and gases.

Type III brake discs have a motorsport developed face with an emphasis on a high initial response while maintaining a smooth pedal release.

• Benefit: The highest overall braking confidence, control and allows the driver to spend less time on the brake pedal. When chasing the fastest lap time, less time on the brake pedal typically leads to a quicker lap time. 
• Drawback: Any disc with an aggressive face type like the Type III will have a higher chance to mechanically abrade the pad and disc surface leading to quicker or uneven pad wear. However, this really depends on variables such as car setup or track layout.

Slotted brake discs put an emphasis on stable brake feel and improve resilience against thermal cracking.

• Benefit: Stable braking feel at all temperatures, low disc wear, and continuously refreshing the braking surface for optimum performance.
• Drawback: They have the lowest “initial response” or “bite” compared to cross-drilled or Type III discs.

Cross-drilled brake discs are suitable for a wide range of applications, operating temperatures and driving environments (especially wet weather).

• Benefit: They offer the highest initial response of all the available disc face types, while continuously refreshing the braking surface and being also typically a bit lighter.
• Drawback: Cross-drilled discs are generally more prone to heat checking and thermal cracking if used consistently at extremely high temperatures. This, however, really depends on the track, driver, and chassis setup.

DBA’s New Brake kit of T3 4000 or 5000 series slotted rotors and Xtreme Performance (XP) brake pads have been designed for drivers seeking high initial bite and friction consistency from low to high temperatures. The XP range are for heavy-duty applications, where higher friction levels are required, in order to safely brake under extreme conditions.

DBA recommends T3 slotted rotors in the 4000 & 5000 Series for best stopping performance.

Sport kits are the basis of our application guide with over of 1000 applications. They feature either the B32 or B33 caliper with disc sizes typically between 300mm and 330mm. The two piece discs feature heat treated billet steel rotors and separate alloy bells which results in an incredibly strong component with the lowest possible overall weight. The focus with any TAROX Sport kit is to ensure an increased level of performance under both street and track conditions with a firm, modulated brake pedal. Also, every effort is made to develop a kit that can be used in the vast majority of occasions with the cars O.E wheels.*

As with all TAROX kits the Sport range integrates with all modern day driving assistants such as ECS, ABS and dynamic driving aids. Each kit features:

• Hand assembled calipers machined from the highest quality billet alloy.
• Heat treated CNC machined billet rotors in either F2000, Sport Japan, C83, or ZERO.
• Hard anodised alloy disc bells.
• Uprated brake pads
• CNC machined alloy mounting brackets with bolts.
• Braided & coated brake lines

All TAROX calipers are anodised, never painted or powder coated. The surface of the alloy is lightly abraded before the pigment is chemically bonded to the alloy to create a beautiful satin finish. Currently we offer colour anodising in red, blue, green or gold. Our black caliper option is an especially tough type of protection called 'Hard Anodising' which is recommended for those who wish to use their cars on the track or for those drivers with a less meticulous car wash regime.

Paragon Performance 2-piece Rotor offers superior braking and cooling efficiency optimized for track and race applications. It features directional ventilation vanes to create suction, turbulence, and guides cool air through the rotor for improved heat dissipation and increased resistance to cracking under harsh track conditions.

Made of CM-250 special formulated high carbon alloy cast iron, it allows for an optimal bite, thermal characteristics, high-temperature strength and durability. Rotor rings are heat treated to release stress in the rotor to avoid deformation and vibration then turned by state-of-the-art CBN surface machining to ensure better break-in with new brake pads.

Vibration is reduced as the rotor lateral run-out is kept within 0.03mm and well-balanced: variations are kept within 2 grams. All rotors went through rigorous quality control procedures and inspections to ensure the rotors are fit for their purposes. The fully-floating 2-piece design allows thermal expansion of the rotor while minimizing deformation and ensuring the rotor is self-centred with the pads. A slotted rotor improves braking consistency by maintaining a clean contact surface and dissipate heat generated and gases released when the pads come into contact with the rotors. Slotted rotors have a superior advantage over blank rotors in wet or rainy conditions by preventing water films to form between the brake pad and rotor surface. Weighing less than most O.E. rotors while maintaining proper thermal capacity, our 2-piece rotors improves overall handling by saving unsprung mass.

Aluminium hats are CNC machined from lightweight 6061-T6 aerospace grade aluminium for high strength and durability under extreme conditions, then anodized to increase resistance to wear and corrosion. Mil-spec hard anodizing will not discolour under extreme heat, while black anodizing is more prone to discolouring under heat (> 392F / 200C). Hard anodized surface is harder, thicker, and more wear and scratch resistant. Hard anodized surface will last longer than black anodized surface, and is highly recommended for track / race applications.
